How Can You Treat Elephantiasis?
Elevating the infected limb reduces swelling, and keeping it clean always helps. Also, getting special massages, and using compressing bandages will keep it from increasing dramatically. Also, doing exercise will help. There are some drugs that with one use will eliminate the microfilariae. These drugs, are diethylcarbamazine, (DEC), and ivermectin.
A Little More About Diethylcarbamazine (DEC)
Inside of DEC is an omega-6 fatty acid called Arachidonic acid, which when injected into the body, makes the microfilariae more susceptible to the immune system.
Fun Fact!
Would you ever guess, that Arachidonic acid is the counterpart to Arachidic acid, found in peanut oil?
A Little More About Ivermectin
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medicine. It's main use is to treat onchocerciasis, which is when roundworms are deposited under the skin after being infected by a flea. But a commonly known disease called scabies, is also treated by ivermectin! Ivermectin is highly toxic to animals with gene mutilations, and to kittens as well!
